Imran Khan allowed to leave Judicial Complex after marking attendance

ISLAMABAD: The hearing of PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s case could not be held on Saturday as police clashed with party workers outside the Judicial Complex, Bol News reported.
Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Zafar Iqbal said the case hearing cannot be held today due to the volatile situation outside the court.
The judge said the trial proceedings should be held in a smooth manner. “Today’s hearing is not possible,” the judge said as he resumed court proceedings after Imran Khan arrived at the gate of the Judicial Complex.
The judge permitted PTI Chairman Imran Khan to go back after marking his attendance outside the Judicial Complex.
As Imran Khan and his motorcade reached outside the Islamabad Judicial Complex, the former prime minister alleged that he was not being allowed to enter the court’s premises.
In an audio message, Imran said he is waiting outside the judicial complex’s door and attempting to enter inside but the police resorted to tear gas shelling and erected checkpoints to prevent him from entering.
Islamabad Police said that Imran’s convoy was right in front of the Judicial Complex. Police said political workers are requested to clear the way so Imran Khan can reach court.
Police claimed that political activists started pelting stones and shelling was also being carried out by them. They said a police picket was also set on fire and PTI workers broke the security barrier and attempted to enter inside.
Imran Khan left Lahore on Saturday morning for a court appearance as he was expected to be indicted in the Toshakhana case. However, PTI workers clashed with police over the possible arrest of the PTI chief.
As the court resumed hearing, the judge said that no one should be under the impression that the matter has been put to rest if the time had passed. “I am here if someone wants to appear before the court,” he said.
Imran’s counsel Advocate Khawaja Harris contended that the PTI chief was being stopped by security on his way and shelling was being done outside the judicial complex.
The election commission’s lawyer Amjad Parvez informed the court that he did not know what was going on outside the court. He asked whether security officers have stopped Imran Khan or he is stooped himself.
The judge said that the election commission’s lawyers should take notice of what was happening inside the premises of the complex. He said the hearing would begin once Khan arrives and left for his chambers.
When the hearing resumed, PTI’s Babar Awan told the judge that Khan’s attendance should be marked in his car as the situation was tense outside. The judge allowed Imran Khan’s attendance to be marked in his car.
