Boland, Sutherland blast out WA top-order in Sheffield Shield

Victoria have an early grip on their crucial final-round Sheffield Shield match against Western Australia in Perth.

Western Australia’s much-vaunted batting line-up slipped to 7-112 at tea on day one, with all of their recognised batters back in the pavilion.

Victoria likely need a win to leapfrog Queensland and secure a spot in the Shield final against Western Australia at the same venue next week.

Interim captain Will Sutherland and returning Test bowler Scott Boland did the bulk of the damage on Tuesday.

Boland returned figures of 3-22, including the wicket of the Shield’s leading scorer Cameron Bancroft, while Sutherland took 3-33.

Runaway leaders Western Australia found run-scoring difficult with only Bancroft (24), Hilton Cartwright (27) and Ashton Turner (27) reaching double figures.
