Imran will be candidate for by-polls of 33 NA seats: Shah Mahmood Qureshi
Lahore (Bol News): Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI) has decided to contest all by-elections of 33 National Assembly seats and the party Chairman Imran Khan will be candidate of the party on all these seats.
This was announced by PTI Senior Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi along with wife of the party imprisoned leader Hibba Fawad Chaudhry and other leaders at Zaman Park on Sunday in a press conference after the party’s core committee in Lahore
Qureshi said that former PTI members of national assembly would be covering candidates, adding that a section is against Imran Khan but expressed hope that their nefarious designs would end in smoke.
The NA seats had fallen vacant earlier this month when NA Speaker Raja Parvez Ashraf accepted the resignations of PTI lawmakers and Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rashid.
The PTI resigned en masse in April last year after the ouster of Khan as the prime minister, but only 11 resignations were accepted in July. Later, as the party tried to stage a comeback to the house, the speaker began accepting their resignations and in a couple of days, he accepted 113 more, including the 33.
In October last year, the former prime minister also set a record when he won six NA seats for the PTI in a by-election that was seen as a direct contest between the former ruling party and the current ruling coalition of the PDM parties, which also grabbed two seats.
The PTI senior leader said that there was no contact between the establishment and the PTI, adding that the President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi had tried to play a role of bridge but failed. He added that the President wanted a way-out by acting on the constitution.
PTI leader Asad Umar on the occasion said that a resolution was also unanimously adopted against KP Governor, who stated that the intelligence agencies and the ECP would decide about the date of the upcoming elections in the province.
He said the PTI Core Committee had also passed another resolution, appealing the President to take notice of the KP governor’s statement about delaying the elections.
Hibba Fawad Chaudhry also spoke and thanked the party chairman Imran Khan for calling her, adding that the party chief strongly condemned the arrest of Fawad.
