Prince William’s environmental prize, the Earthshot Prize, publishes a book designed to inspire action to protect the environment and combat climate change.
Earth “It will be the official book for the Earthshot Prize, highlighting the urgency of the environmental challenges facing our world while providing readers with inspiring case studies of the amazing solutions happening globally to fix our planet,” said the book’s publisher, John Murray. The book is titled “How to Save Our Planet” and was written by Colin Batfield and Johnny Hughes. Batfield is the executive producer of the Our Planet Project at the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) while Hughes is a science writer and filmmaker.
Prince William wrote the Introduction.
The award and the book focus on five different goals of environmental change: protecting and restoring nature, cleaning our air, reviving our oceans, building a waste-free world and fixing our climate.
The book will also include contributions from singer and philanthropist Shakira Mubarak, activist Hindu Umaru Ibrahim, astronaut Naoko Yamazaki, and broadcaster and natural historian Sir David Attenborough.
These contributors all act as advisors to the Earthshot Award.
Earth It will be published in Canada on October 5, 2021.
Prize to save the planet
The Earthshot Prize will award five awards worth C$1.7 million each year for the next ten years, from 2021 to 2030, within the same categories of protecting and restoring nature, clean air, ocean revival, waste reduction and climate change.
“Earth is at a tipping point and we face a stark choice: Either we go on as we are and irreparably damage our aircraft, or we remember our unique strength as human beings and our continued ability to lead, innovate and solve problems.” The Duke of Cambridge said when he announced the award in 2019.

William has recruited dozens of international celebrities to join the Earthshot Prize Board to determine the winners.
They include Brazilian footballer Alves and Chinese entrepreneur Ma, Queen Rania of Jordan, Australian actress Cate Blanchett, Colombian singer Shakira and former UN climate official Christiana Figueres.
“By 2030, we really hope we have made great strides in fixing some of the biggest problems the Earth is facing,” William said when announcing the award.
“I think urgency with optimism creates action. And so the Earthshot Prize is really about harnessing that optimism and that urgency to find solutions to some of the world’s biggest environmental problems.”
The award is supported by many international organizations, including the World Wide Fund for Nature, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the World Economic Forum, the National Geographic Society, and Greenpeace.
The first prize winners will be announced on October 17, 2021.
More royals are publishing books
Earth It is the second proprietary book to be announced this week. Tuesday 20 July Prince Harry has announced that he will be publishing a memoir in late 2022.
The book, which has yet to be titled, will be “the definitive account of the trials, adventures, losses, and life lessons that helped shape it,” according to Canadian publisher Random House Canada.
Harry’s wife, Megan, also recently became an author. She published her first book, The Picture Book the seat, in the spring of 2021. The book, drawn by American artist Christian Robinson, was a celebration of fathers and sons. It was inspired by Harry’s relationship with the couple’s first child, Archie.

In 2018, I worked on and wrote the introduction to together, a cookbook collecting recipes from survivors of the Grenfell Tower fire in London. In the aftermath of the fire, many women gathered at the Hubb Community Kitchen to share recipes, find community and restore hope. Megan is engaged to the group, and the cookbook works in fundraising for the kitchen.
