Islamabad: Prime Minister Imran Khan addresses the nation, a day after his decision to hold a vote of confidence after the ruling party suffered a setback when its candidate, Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, lost a seat in the Senate from Islamabad to a joint candidate from Pakistan. Federal Minister for Media and Broadcasting, Shibley Faraz, confirmed today that the special session of the National Assembly has been called on Saturday, in which Prime Minister Imran Khan will hold a vote of confidence after the government-backed Senate candidate, Hafeez Sheikh, lost the Senate elections on Wednesday.
Sources familiar with the developments said that Prime Minister Khan had instructed the partisan House of Representatives to stay in Islamabad until the National Security Council session, which was called in to vote on Saturday.
He added that Prime Minister Imran Khan nominated Sadiq Sanjrani as a candidate for the presidency of the Senate by the government.
