PPP maintains NA-221 polls in the by-election out of tremendous progress
The PPP won the by-elections in the NA-221 Tharparkar National Assembly constituency, according to unofficial results, reported Monday.
The seat was vacant after the death of National Assembly member Nur Muhammad Shah, the Pakistan People’s Party.
The returning official (RO) said that PPP candidate Bir Amir Ali Shah Gilani won 102,232 votes and snatched NA-221 Tharparkar in the by-elections, while his opponent Pakistan Movement Insaf (PTI) Nizamuddin remained in second place with 52, 522 votes.
Turnout remained 58.88%.
On Sunday, polling was interrupted at Kesarar polling station due to the NA-221 Tharparkar fire blaze. Voting resumed after police and guards put the situation under control.
Some miscreants entered the Kesrar polling station in NA-221 and set fire to the polling station, setting the ballot material for the by-elections to fire. Some police uniforms were also burned in the accident.
Rangers arrived at the scene and arrested five suspects.
